Welcome to Ross Motels on the Wild West Coast (En spreken hollands). We are an older style complex, family operated, offering 6 very spacious, comfortable, clean units. Ross is located on the South Island's West Coast, only 20 minutes south of Hokitika. Being located near the centre of the West Coast, it is an ideal place to stay. It is a gateway to all the wonderful attractions the West Coast has to offer. Only 1.5 hours drive takes you to the famous Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier, Punakaiki (Pancake Rocks), Lake Brunner and Arthurs Pass. Shantytown is just 40 minutes drive north on the way to Greymouth. Ross is a historic gold-mining town, the last example of deep-level alluvial gold-mining in New Zealand. The largest gold nugget ever found in NZ (The 'Roddy' Nugget) was discovered in Ross in 1909, it weighed 99oz. Take time to explore the historic goldfields. Learn to pan for gold at the Ross Goldfields Information Centre then try your luck fossicking in Jones Creek. Whatever you choose to do, be it tramping, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, canoeing on the lakes, playing golf, enjoying the rugged beach or the rivers, everything is so close by. Maybe you are travelling along the West Coast, we are approximately half way between Nelson and Wanaka. You can relax, unwind and enjoy the beautiful sunsets.
